New Lanark Family Fun Day 19 August

New LanarkAll UNISON members are invited to our Members, Family and Friends Fun Day at New Lanark on Sunday 19th August from 11am to 5pm.

This is our 10th year of celebrating all things UNISON and having fun at New Lanark and we hope that even more members and staff join us for a great day out.

New Lanark is a great setting for a day out at any time with its historic mills, beautiful scenery, children’s play areas, visitor centre, cafes and hotel. In addition to that they have the exhibition Game Plan which is a celebration and rediscovery of board games with exhibits from the V&A collection and some giant board games to play.

The special UNISON attractions on the day include:

  • Music with Alasdair McDonald and others
  • Children’s activities including face painting, balloon sculpting, treasure hunt, bouncy castles
  • The Universal Connection games bus
  • A birds of prey flying performance
  • Free Indian head massage and reiki
  • Children’s story time with Judy
  • Song writing workshop with Carol Lula
  • Childrens street games courtesy of the WASPI campaign

All members who attend will be entered into our free raffle with the chance to win an overnight stay in the New Lanark Mill Hotel and Spa and other prizes.

This year’s guest speaker is Christine McAnea, Assistant General Secretary, who will welcome all members at the UNISON reception for drinks and nibbles.

We are also pleased to announce that joining us at New Lanark this year are Project Gambia who are collecting materials for St John’s School for Deaf Children in the Gambia. We are looking for school bags, pencils, rulers, sharpeners, erasers and other stuff that the kids returning to school will need. If you can please bring a few things along to help this great project.

As always we will have various campaigning stalls and the UNISON Welfare Tombola (Prizes for the tombola would be appreciated).

We would ask that all branches promote the event to members and encourage them to attend. We would appreciate if branches could bring their banners to display them in the courtyard ensuring that we turn New Lanark into a UNISON town for the day.

Free buses will run from East Kilbride, Hamilton and Glasgow. To book seats on these please contact our office. Branches are welcome to organise their own transport from elsewhere!

Any contributions to the cost of the event would be warmly accepted but more importantly we would be delighted to see branch officers, activists and staff join us for a great fun and comradely day out.

If you need any more information please let me know.
